Letter from the President
Dear JA Friends,
This year, Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA) celebrates a remarkable milestone: 70 years of empowering students—and we’re about to reach our 1 millionth student served.
That student could be someone like Jovan E. As a 9th grader, Jovan didn’t know where his path would lead—until the YouthForce NOLA + JA Career Expo sparked a journey. Through experiences like JA Mock Interviews, he gained the confidence to speak about his strengths and approach any interview with self-assurance.
Jovan then earned a competitive internship at Trimedx, where he immersed himself in biomedical technology through virtual simulations and hands-on shadowing. More than gaining technical skills, he found purpose—thanks to his mentor, JA volunteer Bryant Hawkins, who showed him the value of confidence, curiosity, and professionalism.
Weeks later, after undergoing surgery, Jovan awoke to a familiar label: Trimedx. The same technology he had explored was now keeping him safe. In that moment, Jovan realized this wasn’t just a career—it was a calling.
Later, at a JA career day, he shared his story. In the audience was the President of the College of Biomedical Equipment Technology—who offered Jovan a scholarship on the spot. Jovan is on his way to a career in Biomedical Equipment Technology. That’s what Junior Achievement makes possible—and that’s what your support has built.
As we approach our 1 millionth student, we’re inviting you to help us take the next step. Your gift today ensures that more students like Jovan have access to life-changing mentors, career pathways, and the confidence to see themselves in roles they never imagined.
We’ve changed one million futures. Let’s get started on the next million.
With deepest thanks,
Larry Washington
President
