Planting Seeds of Purpose: Honoring Bryant Hawkins’ Impact

Last month, we shared the story of a JA student whose life was forever changed by the guidance of Bryant Hawkins, a dedicated JA volunteer from Trimedx. Inspired by Bryant’s mentorship, that student chose to pursue a career path much like the one Bryant has built — a powerful testament to the difference one caring adult can make.

As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month, we turn the spotlight to Bryant himself. His impact reaches far beyond just one student; it ripples through classrooms and communities across our region. From elementary schools to high schools, from Orleans Parish to St. Charles Parish, Bryant has shown up — again and again — ready to pour into the lives of young people with his time, his talent, and his heart.

Recently, Bryant volunteered at Ethel A. Schoeffner Elementary School, where he didn’t just lead a session — he made a promise to return, bearing books to continue inspiring the students he met. True to his word, he came back with copies of Voices of Medical Equipment, a book that opens young eyes to the behind-the-scenes heroes of healthcare. Reflecting on that day, Bryant shared this wonderful reflection and moving video on his YouTube channel:

“I walked into Ethel A. Schoeffner Elementary with one goal in mind: plant a seed. Today, 140 fifth graders received a copy of Voices of Medical Equipment, a book written to show them that the future of healthcare isn’t just about doctors and nurses... It’s also about innovators, fixers, and protectors of patient care behind the scenes. This moment wasn’t about me, it was about them. It was about sparking imagination. It was about planting purpose. Huge thank you to Junior Achievement Greater New Orleans and the sponsors who literally replied in less than a day with support. That kind of responsiveness is how change happens, fast, real and from the heart. I don’t know what each of these kids will grow into, but I do know the seed is in the soil. And I can’t wait to see what blooms. Grateful beyond words to the HTM industry for making this day possible. And shoutout to Nathan Manning for capturing this historic moment; we made history today. Let’s keep planting. Let’s keep elevating. Let’s keep pouring into the next generation.”

Bryant’s words — and more importantly, his actions — capture the true spirit of what it means to serve. He reminds us that change starts with a simple act of showing up, of believing in young people before they even know what they are capable of becoming.

Bryant, we thank you — for your unwavering commitment, for the seeds you plant so generously, and for inspiring all of us to lead with heart, hope, and purpose.
