Junior Achievement Welcomes Laurie Young as New Chair of the Board of Governors

Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA) proudly announces Laurie Young, Counsel at Adams and Reese LLP, as the incoming Chair of its Board of Governors. A dedicated board member for over 13 years, Laurie brings deep institutional knowledge, unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, and a legacy of leadership that will shape the organization’s path forward.

Laurie has long championed entrepreneurship education in the region, serving as the founding Chair of the committee overseeing JA’s “Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge.” Under her guidance, this innovative program—now entering its 12th year—has grown from a local pilot into a regional powerhouse that equips thousands of high school students with the skills, mentorship, and confidence to launch real-world ventures. Her leadership has ensured that the Challenge remains rooted in creativity and possibility while expanding its reach to students from all backgrounds.

A respected attorney whose litigation practice focuses on maritime, labor and employment, and hospitality law, Laurie is also an active community leader. She has been recognized multiple times by New Orleans CityBusiness, including induction into its "Women of the Year" Hall of Fame and receipt of its Leadership in Law award. She has also earned the Children's Hero Award from the Children's Bureau of New Orleans for her dedication to youth-focused causes.

“Laurie has been a tireless advocate for our mission and a trusted voice on our Board,” said Larry Washington, President of JA of Greater New Orleans. “Her strategic insight, deep compassion, and belief in the potential of young people make her the perfect leader to help guide us into the next era—especially as we celebrate reaching our one millionth student.”

As Board Chair, Laurie will help steer JA’s continued growth across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, ensuring the organization remains responsive to the region’s needs in financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship education.

Please join us in congratulating Laurie Young and welcoming her into this pivotal leadership role.
