JA of Greater New Orleans Empowers Special Education Youth: Building Confidence, Skills, and Dreams for All Learners

Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA) is committed to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential. That includes students with special needs, who gain valuable skills and confidence through JA's accessible programs. Here's how JA is empowering special needs youth in our community:

BizTown Opens its Shops for Opportunities Academy Students

Older students from Opportunities Academy, Collegiate Academies' program for college-aged individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, are experiencing the thrill of BizTown, JA's immersive simulated city. With careful adaptation, BizTown transforms into an accessible learning environment. Volunteers with special education experience guide students through the city, helping them explore various careers, manage finances, and collaborate – all while having fun! This unique experience fosters teamwork, decision-making skills, and a deeper understanding of the working world.

Polishing Resumes and Building Confidence through Mock Interviews

JA's work readiness programs equip special needs youth with crucial skills for entering the workforce. Mock interviews provide a safe space for students to practice their interview techniques, refine their resumes, and build confidence in their abilities. JA volunteers, many with professional experience, offer constructive feedback and encouragement, helping students shine during real-life interviews.

Reaching Every Learner through Inclusive In-Class Programs

JA understands the diverse needs of students in inclusive classrooms. JA’s in-class programs are designed to be accessible, engaging, and relevant to all learners. Interactive activities, differentiated instruction, and supportive teaching methods ensure every student can participate and succeed. JA's curriculum aligns with state standards, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

By providing accessible programs like BizTown, mock interviews, and inclusive in-class learning, JA of Greater New Orleans is empowering special needs youth to build a brighter future. They are equipping these students with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to succeed in the workplace, pursue their dreams, and become valuable members of our community.
