A Note about Grade Levels
All of these programs are written at a 9th-12th grade level.  The above grade level arrangement is based on teacher input across several parishes, but you are free to use any or a combination of these programs.

JA NEFE Financial Planning - 9th Grade

This program introduces students to the importance of making wise financial choices. Students explore the role that money plays in achieving personal goals throughout life. They develop planning, goal setting, and thoughtful decision-making skills that will help them protect themselves from the unexpected financial pitfalls that plague so many adults. Thanks to our partnership with the National Endowment for Financial Education, teachers receive extensive additional programming and each student receives an extremely useful financial planning workbook.

JA Careers with a Purpose - 10th Grade

How can ethical positive values, life maxims, and decision-making skills help people make career and life decisions? Can people make career choices in terms of their individual noble purpose? How? Through hands-on classroom activities and local, regional, and global essay competitions, JA Careers with a Purpose introduces students to the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life potential and noble purpose.

JA Exploring Economics - 11th Grade

Students learn about supply and demand, inflation, and the effect of government in micro- and macro-economics. Students learn the impact they have on the economy as consumers and taxpayers and learn important personal financial lessons about spending, saving, and investing.

JA Success Skills - 12th Grade

“What do I need to know to find, get, and keep a job?” The answer? JA’s Success Skills. Students participate in challenging exercises to help them develop personal strategies to achieve lifelong learning pursuits and career opportunities. Team-building exercises test their problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as well as their ability to communicate, negotiate, and lead. Through engaging activities, they appreciate the importance of personal appearance, professional demeanor, punctuality, and written and oral communication.

JA JobShadow

Would you rather tell students about the workplace or show them? We introduce students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations in which students meet the boss, shadow employees and even learn and participate in job activities when applicable. It’s an authentic work-world experience for the students … enhanced with two classroom preparatory sessions and one session for follow-up activities.

JA Connecting to Success: A High School Conference

The conference not only gives high school students the tools they need to form and realize career goals, it also connects the local business community to its future growth engine.  The conference fully utilizes the natural bonds between business and education by creating a forum for student interaction with exemplary representatives from numerous career fields.  These representatives come from over 30 different area businesses and together form a clearinghouse for career planning expertise and inspiration.  The conference is held annually at Delgado Community College, City Park Campus.

JA’s More Specialized High School Programs

JA Economics

This program reinforces concepts of micro- and macro-economics by having students explore the basic characteristics of the U.S. economic system, and how economic principles influence business decisions. It also introduces students to career opportunities, consumer issues, and helps reinforce academic and leadership skills, including: research and data analysis, problem-solving and critical-thinking. This is a semester-long teacher-driven course with occasional volunteer-led activities.

JA Company Program

Students start their own businesses, sell stock, elect officers, produce and sell a real good or service and steer their business to success.
