~ Animal Shelter ~

The Animal Shelter is just one of 14 businesses within the 10,000 square foot JA BizTown.  The Animal Shelter’s primary purposes are to find responsible persons who can adopt animals and to solicit donations to protect endangered species.  Potential adopters must apply and be educated on their responsibilities as pet owners.

Key Features:

Pet Adoption is simulated, but the processes are as real as possible.  Potential adopters must apply and are educated on ownership responsibilities, including taking the care test - feeding an animal and cleaning its habitat.  In exchange, adopters can bring home an adoption certificate with a photo of their adopted pet.

Endangered Species information is presented to Animal Shelter visitors.  If one chooses to become a donor, he or she can take home a fact sheet on their favorite endangered animal along with a photo.

The Animal Shelter also sells fundraising products, such as plush animals, dog toys, cat toys, etc.

Human Resources:

CEO – The boss; must manage employees and the company to pay back a business loan

CFO – handles paying bills, trips to the bank and all accounting

Animal Specialists – adopt out pets, solicit donations for endangered species, and care for pets

Capital Resources:

Plastic gloves, a cat habitat, a puppy play pen, pet food and food bowls, water bowls, grooming brushes, collars, identification tags, a broom and dustpan, tables, chairs, display cases, fundraising merchandise etc.
