Technology Highlights

Junior Achievement successfully incorporates technology into its JA BizTown program. While participating in the program, students will have access to computers, will learn various types of software and how to gather news from our closed circuit television network, and will experience wireless networking and how banking accounts records are primarily kept electronically. Certain students with higher levels of interest in technology will get to learn about and use digital cameras, digital camcorders, photo and video editing software, word processors, web design software, and accounting software.

Here are some facts about JA BizTown technology:

  • There are 14 businesses, each with at least 1 and as many as 5 computers

  • There are a total of 35 computers for student use

  • JA BizTown will have a closed circuit TV network with small to medium size LCD monitors in each business as well as two large screen LCD displays

  • Completely wireless network was donated by Cisco Systems

  • Student personal accounts and business checking accounts are digitally recorded so that students and businesses cannot overdraw funds; teachers can also obtain reports to examine how students managed their money

  • Point of sale computers record students’ personal transactions

  • Accounting computers record business income and expenditures

  • The Entertainment Stop business features digital cameras and photo editing

  • The Television Station features digital camcorders and video editing software
